
Five men from New York City en route to the Super Bowl victory parade in Pittsburgh were arrested Tuesday in possession of counterfeit Steelers merchandise.
They were charged with trademark counterfeiting after state police found more than 300 hats and 300 T-shirts inside their vehicle, which was stopped for speeding.
Police said the men were traveling in a 2006 Dodge Charger on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Mt. Pleasant Township shortly after 7 a.m. when the vehicle passed an unmarked patrol car at an estimated speed of 85 mph.
After the vehicle was pulled over, state police Sgt. Anthony DeLuca noticed the Steelers merchandise inside the car, and the men told police they were headed to the parade Downtown to sell the goods.
Arrested were: Leon Shears, Jamie Barzey and Anwar Smith, all 25; William Primus, 26; and Nathaniel Bowman, 21, all from the Bronx.
DeLuca said Primus resisted arrest and was tased. He faces additional charges of resisting arrest, tampering with evidence and providing false identification. He was treated at Excela Health Frick Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.
