A friendly wager on Super Bowl XLIII will help fill food kitchens in Pennsylvania and Arizona.
Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato said Wednesday he'll honor a wager with his counterpart in Maricopa County, Ariz., county Chairman Max Wilson, even though the Steelers defeated the Arizona Cardinals 27-23 on Sunday.
"We wanted to send our wagered items to the people of Maricopa County in honor of the greatest Super Bowl in history," Onorato said in a statement.
Donated goods Onorato will send to Wilson: $1,500 worth of Dick's Sporting Goods merchandise; a framed print donated by the Andy Warhol Museum in the North Side; a case of Italian sausage from Ricci's Italian Sausage in McKees Rocks; five dozen Steelers-themed Smiley Cookies from Eat'n Park Restaurants; and bottles of Heart and Soul Healthy Lemonade from Heart and Soul Foods Inc. of Gibsonia.
The sporting goods will go to the Jerry Colangelo Boys & Girls Club in Phoenix. The food will go to the Maricopa County Human Services Campus.
In exchange, Wilson will send Onorato $1,050 worth of PING golf products made by the Phoenix-based company; a framed photograph titled "The Stronghold" by Arizona photographer David MacDougal; four dozen tamales from El Portal Mexican Restaurant in Maricopa County; and four dozen homemade tortillas and 4 pounds of homemade chorizo from Carolina's Mexican Restaurant in Phoenix.
The golf equipment will go to the nonprofit First Tee of Pittsburgh at the county Housing Authority's Pleasant Ridge community in Stowe, Onorato said. Rainbow Kitchen Community Services of Homewood will receive the food.
A spokeswoman for Onorato said the shipments likely will be packaged and shipped sometime next week. FedEx Ground will provide free shipping.
