Many have mocked Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb for not knowing that an NFL regular-season game could end in a tie. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger defended McNabb, estimating that 50 percent of players are similarly uninformed.
Five out of 12 Dolphins surveyed Wednesday acknowledged they didn't know the rule either.
"I thought you just kept playing," linebacker Reggie Torbor said.
"I'm part of that 50 percent, I guess," fullback Lousaka Polite said.
Will Allen, who played with McNabb at Syracuse, knew the rule. But he called it "totally unfair" that McNabb is being criticized, adding that Roethlisberger's estimate was probably low.
Jason Ferguson said he would "really be surprised that [teammates] didn't know the rule. I'm going to fine everyone in the room who said that."
Channing Crowder was less forgiving: "Really? They don't know? Well, there's a lot of idiots in the NFL. I'm smart."
