--Steelers free safety Ryan Clark, talking about "celebrity" quarterback Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys: "I stopped reading US Weekly and all that stuff, I felt kind of feminine, you know, so I really haven't been up on it. I do know he's an awesome quarterback. I don't know if he can sing, maybe if he can sing and act a little bit."
Told his girlfriend, Jessica Simpson, could sing, Clark deadpanned, "Can she?"
--WR Hines Ward started along with Plaxico Burress for five seasons in Pittsburgh and does not know what possessed his former teammate to have a loaded gun in a New York City club.
"Whenever you carry a gun out in public, there's nothing good that can come of it," Ward said. "When you carry a gun out in the streets or whatnot, even if you have to draw it on somebody, I don't think there's anything good can come of it."
--Ward, on the difference between the Pittsburgh and Dallas organizations: "They're the superstars, that's why they have the stars on their helmets. There's nothing flashy with this team. We just bring a lunch bucket to work and work hard, that's just the motto of this city."
BY THE NUMBERS: 300 -- Total yards in a game the Steelers have not allowed this season. Their streak of 12 to start a season is tied for second longest since 1970. The Los Angeles Rams set the record with 14 in 1973, when a season lasted only 14 games.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "We lost two at home and we lost one on the road." -- Mike Tomlin, asked if he could explain why his team has a better record on the road (5-1) than at home (4-2).
