Titans beat Steelers, 31-14
NASHVILLE, Tenn. ? Ben Roethlisberger committed four turnovers, and the No. 1 defense in the NFL looked surprisingly vulnerable, as the Steelers lost to the Tennessee Titans, 31-14, today at LP Field.

The Titans improved to 13-2 with the victory and clinched home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Steelers saw their five-game winning streak come to an end as they had problems in all three phases in front of a capacity crowd.

The loss made next Sunday's regular-season finale against the Browns virtually meaningless. The Steelers (11-4), who have already clinched the AFC North title, are locked in as the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoffs and will get a first-round bye.

The Steelers looked like anything but a Super Bowl contender in suffering their worst loss of the season.

Roethlisberger threw for 331 yards but he lost a pair of fumbles that cost the Steelers at least 10 points. He also threw a third-quarter interception that set up a Titans touchdown while an interception at the end of the game resulted in another Tennessee touchdown.

The Steelers' defense, meanwhile, gave up 323 yards of total offense, the first time this season it has yielded more than 300 yards in a game, and did not force a turnover.

Shoddy special teams play also figured into the Steelers losing for the eighth time in their last nine road games against the Titans.

Jeff Reed missed a 33-yard field goal at the end of the first half and James Harrison got called for an unsportsmanlike penalty before a Titans field goal attempt near the end of the third quarter.

The Titans, who were leading 17-14 at the time, were given a first down as well as the ball at the Steelers' 4-yard line. Two plays later, LenDale White scored on a short touchdown run and the Titans never looked back.

Michael Griffin had two interceptions and his 83-yard return near the end of the game put the exclamation point on the Titans' win.
